David Smallwood MSc, PG Dip, NCAC.
David Smallwood is the Kusnacht Practice’s Clinical Director and has a tremendous amount of experience in coordinating one-on-one clinical treatment programs that are custom-designed to cover the full spectrum of addictions and other disordered behaviours. He has been a therapist and counsellor for over 14 years and possesses a postgraduate degree (M.Sc) in addiction counselling and psychology, together with specialist postgraduate Diplomas in therapeutic counselling and addictive disorders therapy. He is also accredited as a National Certified Addiction Counsellor (NCAC) by the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals and is a UKRCP registered independent counsellor and psychotherapist.
He specialises in treating a range of addiction disorders, codependency and trauma issues which cause anxiety and depression. He has undergone further specialist training in Post Induction Therapy, EMDR (eye movement desensitising and re- processing) and addiction-related interventions. He has also published his own book on addictions.
Prior to joining The Kusnacht Practice, David worked in private practice on London’s Harley Street and at a number of highly reputable rehabilitation treatment clinics, including the Promis Counselling Centre and the Priory Hospital in London. He was responsible for managing multi-disciplinary clinical teams and for coordinating the delivery of a range of addiction-related therapies, with special focus on one-on-one treatment programs.
Within The Kusnacht Practice, he is responsible for coordinating the team of specialists which provides the various aspects of each client’s tailor-made treatment program. His extensive experience has led him to the conclusion that the key to ensuring a client’s lasting recovery lies in synchronising the positive effects of a range of clinical and complementary therapies. He is confident that the array of therapies offered at The Kusnacht Practice, combined with our Continuing Care Program, offer each client the greatest chance of successfully treating any addiction or disordered behaviour.
