Binge Eating Disorder

The consumption of food is obviously essential for the human race’s survival - but our relationship with it can be quite complicated. As with bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder - or BED - centres around the uncontrolled ingestion of large amounts of food in a short period of time. These binges are often regarded as a reaction to problems such as ongoing stress. Consumption of food is a way to boost the brain’s reward circuitry and increase dopamine levels. Naturally, one of the results of this disorder can be weight gain. But there can be many underlying factors behind it - mental or genetic problems and issues around the correct diet. Therefore, as with all cases, we will look at each client individually and holistically, to discover the root cause and make you better. And rest assured, most will make a full recovery and learn to develop a healthy relationship with food for the rest of their lives.
